Post Office Booking Receipt
The primary source. When you book any trackable article at a post office counter, the 13-digit consignment number is printed on the receipt under “Consignment No.” or “Article No.” Keep this receipt until delivery is confirmed. It is the most reliable source.
SMS from India Post
For Speed Post, EMS, and Registered Post, India Post sends an automated booking confirmation SMS to the sender’s registered mobile. Look for messages from sender IDs like INDPST, DOPOST, or PassportSP. Check your spam/blocked folder.
Email Confirmation
For e-bookings via indiapost.gov.in Click & Book, or for eCommerce orders shipped via India Post, you receive an email with the tracking number. Check your inbox and spam folder for emails from indiapost.gov.in or your seller’s domain.
eCommerce Order Page
If you’re the buyer, go to your order on Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, or any other marketplace. Navigate to “Track Shipment” or “Order Details.” If the seller used India Post, the 13-digit CP, EE, or LP number appears in the shipment section.
Passport Seva Portal
For passport delivery specifically, log in to passportindia.gov.in and check “Track Application Status” using your 15-digit ARN. Once your passport is dispatched, the PP-prefix tracking number appears on this status page even if you haven’t received the SMS.
Call the Booking Post Office
If all else fails, visit or call the post office where the article was booked. Bring a photo ID and approximate booking date and amount. Post office staff can search their system and retrieve the consignment number from booking records.
