Passport Dispatch Tracking through India Post
After a passport authority confirms dispatch, use the postal article number from the official message to follow processing and delivery. This page explains the difference between application progress and postal tracking.
Application status and delivery status are different
The passport portal reports application processing, approval, printing and dispatch. India Post tracking begins only after a postal article number is assigned. If your application says dispatched but no postal number is visible, review the official dispatch message or your passport-portal account.
How to track the dispatched passport
- Open the verified dispatch SMS or email.
- Copy the complete postal article number.
- Enter it in the tracking form.
- Confirm that the booking location and date match the dispatch information.
- Monitor the latest event until delivery or a delivery-attempt message appears.
Protect personal information
A passport is a sensitive identity document. Do not post its number, photograph, application reference, date of birth, address or tracking screenshot publicly. This website does not need identity documents to explain tracking terminology.
Use only official Passport Seva and India Post channels for case-specific assistance. Be cautious of messages requesting urgent payment or personal documents through unofficial links.
Delivery attempt or delayed dispatch
If the item is out for delivery, ensure the address is accessible and follow any official identification requirements communicated for delivery. If tracking stops before reaching the destination office, note the last scan and allow a reasonable transport interval. For an unconfirmed delivery or prolonged delay, contact official support with the dispatch message and postal article number.
Passport delivery FAQs
Can I track with the passport application number?
No. Postal tracking requires the article number created after dispatch. Application progress should be checked through Passport Seva.
Why does postal tracking show no record?
The number may be mistyped or the first postal event may not yet be available. Recheck the dispatch message and try again later.
What if the status says delivered but I did not receive it?
Check with authorised household members or reception, then contact official India Post and Passport Seva support without sharing identity details publicly.
