AWB Tracking and India Post Article Numbers
AWB means air waybill, but users often apply the term loosely to any shipment reference. India Post’s public tracking commonly asks for an article or consignment number. This guide explains which number to use and why an airline or courier AWB may not work in a postal field.

Use India Post tracking when the receipt or sender confirms India Post as the carrier and supplies a postal article or consignment number. Enter the full identifier without spaces and confirm that the booking details match.
When an AWB needs another system
If the document identifies an airline, freight forwarder or private courier, its AWB may require that organisation’s tracking portal. Do not change the number’s format merely to make it resemble a postal identifier. Ask the sender which operator currently holds the shipment.
